Now we're ready to cut some off the top and off the bottom
to give it a better perspective shape. Selections tool again
still on ellipse, place your cursor at 150 & 250 and drag
the ellipse outward to the edges of your plank and to a height
of 25 pixels like this:

(Don't be alarmed if you have more to erase off the top than
you see here, I've changed a couple things since these shots
were taken *g*)
Save this selection to Alpha
Channel and name it Barrel Back, then invert
the selection and using your eraser tool you
need to erase all the barrel from outside
the top of the ellipse then invert your selection
back again so only the oval is selected and
go to Selections/Promote to Layer and name
this layer Barrel Back. Then make your Barrel
Front Layer active and hit delete, this places
your barrel front and back on separate layers,
which you'll want to have when your filling
it with flowers or whatever.
Save You Work Again! :o)
Now let's cut off the bottom of the barrel in
the same manner, placing your cursor at 375 & 250 dragging
to meet the edges and a height of 25 (the same as the top cut
was for you), then invert and erase away all that's below the
ellipse shape and deselect. Now you should have an image rough
cut in and ready to start adding some details.
Begin with the very top rim
of the planter.
Go to your Preset Shapes tool and select the
shape labeled Moon1
(PSP 6 users this would be the time to load
FDMoon1 selection from disk, that you downloaded
to your selections folder and hold on till
we flood fill it lol)
Make your settings as follows your going to
use the gradient I provided to fill this shape
with set to Radial:
Draw your moon shape out holding down shift
so it stays symetric beginning at 10 &
10, make it quite large, then give it a spin
to the right so the end points are level
(PSP 6 users flood fill your selection at
this time using the gradient I provided set
to a Radial setting, no repeats then deselect
and apply your deformation tool so we can
move it into place.

With the deformation tool on your Moon shape
lets lay it down to form a shadowed top rim for the barrel!
Line up the sides with the barrel sides, and the bottom with
the barrel lip then pull down the top bar of the deformation
tool so the whole image becomes about 10 pixels high like this:

What a neat and easy way to achieve this effect
yes??!! *S*
Once you have it fully aligned push Apply then
hide your Barrel Back and merge all visible so the Barrel Front
and the rim are now one piece. Now go to Selections/Select All/Float/Defloat
this should have ants marching around the Barrel Front, save
this selection to Alpha Channel naming it Barrel Front, then
deselect.
You can see in these shots my Barrel Back Layer
is visible........ it helps me keep an eye on the alignment
of everything.
Ok now you ought to have 2 layers once more..... Named Barrel
Front and Barrel Back.
Looking more and more like a barrel now!!
