You know the old saying . . . . April Showers Bring May Flowers! Digital woodworking and gardening is so much fun!!

Now onto making the bands :o) This parts easy too! Once again we'll be using the Moon1 Preset Shape using the same gradient settings as the top band.(PSP 6 Users load your selection again and flood fill it the same as before) Draw it out, then rotoate it into position and begin aligning. You want it to line up like this:

Create your bands

Extending the sides well past the edges of the barrel, what we're looking for here is the reflection and the glow the gradient is giving us as well as the subtle curved shape from the Moon1. When your happy with it's alignment Convert it to a raster then load your Saved selection Barrel Front from Aplha Channel, make your Band layer active then invert the selection from alpha and hit delete, there the ends are gone and it looks pretty good huh?!
(Looks pretty good as redwood too lol)

Now we need to add a little bevel to the band this I'll leave up to you I've tried it with various settings and liked the results of several of them. You might try these setting for starters:

Just a suggestion for Inner Bevel settings

Play around with the settings and see what appeals to you!

Once beveled we need to add a some more detail to it by selecting all/float/defloat Add Noise at 15%/Uniform then add a new layer and apply the airbrush

Airbrush settings needed to add extra effect
Color # 6C2E08 adds a nice rust effect.

Apply liberally then go to Blur/Gaussian Blur at 7, if your happy with it then hide all layers except the band and it's rusty layer then merge all visible Name it Front Band. Unhide the Barrel Front and duplicate the band layer 2 times, Moving them down to create the center and bottom band, on the bottom band it is going to go about a third of the way beyond the bottom of the barrel and thats ok! When your happy with the placement, hide the Barrel Front and merge all flatten, naming this new merged layer Bands. Select All/Float/Defloat Add a New Layer to apply a cut out effect like this:

Your cutout shadowing should match your dark shadows.

If you find this too dark just lower the opacity on this layer some to suit yourself. Deselct and marge this layer into your Bands, making them one layer.

Now we can add some shadowing and water stains to the barrel to make it a bit more natural looking!

Band layer active add a drop shadow using these settings:

V = 1
H = 1
Opacity = 100
Blur = 1.2

Then repeat keeping settings the same but change V & H to -1

Now Load from Alpha your Barrel Front, invert selection with the Bands layer active hit delete to clean up any overflow, and it's looking good!

Barrel Front Layer active Add a New layer and Load Barrel Front from Alpha channel to add water stains using your Airbrush on the same settings you used before only change your color to match the dark shadow color you used at the beginning and apply some airbrush like below,

Airbrush it on like this

then go to Blur/Motion Blur Angle set to 180 degrees Intensity set to 20. Cool!
Now activate the back layer (it needs some water stains too)Don't forget the inside back too
and repeat, select all/float/defloat/ add a new layer/airbrush same settings/merge 2 back layers.

Now if your happy with that part let's hide the Back Barrel layer and Merge All Visible, going back to only 2 layers, rename the new merged to Barrel Front. Select All/Float/Defloat and add a new layer........ let's add some cutout effects, this is the final step on the barrel itself so hang in there!

Cutout settings on the new layer as follows:
V = 15
H = 20
Opacity = 81
Blur = 40
And repeat, adding another new layer and changing V & H to -15 & -20. Merge visible, ending up with 2 layers Barrel Front & Barrel Back
((I hope I haven't lost you by now, I tend to confuse even myself sometimes so bare with me please! *g*))

Save Your Work!

At this point you now have a wonderful whiskey barrel type planter for you to enjoy!!

Let's add a quick roof and transform it a Wishing Barrel!! :o))

Redwood planters look great too!! This one started out using the Stained Wood preset in PSP 7, then colorized to a reddish tint
