The Old Wood pattern makes for a wonderful nicely weathered looking planter!

Now were ready to add the roof! I had filled my first planter with flowers and as I was doing so that's when the idea to make a roof was born lol so the next few shots include flowers too! Actually it was helpful to me to have them in the planter all ready when I began placing my supports. But many layers can get confusing too :o) So it's up to you go ahead and add some flowers now or let's get on with the roof!

Open the Roof Plank you saved in the beginning and copy/paste it as a new layer, duplicate this layer like we did for the barrel twice, I think 3 boards make a tall enough roof, hide your barrel layers, line up the planks and merge all visible,rotate the image Right by 90 degrees (All layers is Unchecked!)

Look at your barrel to get an idea of the width of your roof, you may need to stretch it to suit yourself.

If you need to resize the roof panel, just use your deformation tool to make the adjustments. Move the roof panel into position, here you will either need to move your planter down, or increase the canvas size so you have enough room to work on the roof, once you have it set up where it looks at a good level distance, go to Selections/Select All/ Float/Defloat and add a New Layer to apply your airbrush to the seams in the wood using the same settings as we did on the barrel, go to Blur/Motion Blur at 90 degrees Strength at 20.

Add another new layer and apply a cutout effect to it at these settings:

V = 15
H = 20
Opacity = 81
Blur = 40
Shadow Color is same as your airbrush and dark shadow colors you've been using
Fill interior color is UNchecked.

Add another new layer and repeat cutout effect at these settings:

V = -15
H = -20
Opacity = 81
Blur = 40
Shadow Color is same as your airbrush and dark shadow colors you've been using
Fill interior color is UNchecked

Duplicate the roof layer for a front and back roof panel.
Now you need to tilt the roof panels a bit to, go to Effects/Geometric Effects/Skew (PSP 6 users it's located under Images/Deformations) and use a 7 Horizontal on the Front panel and a -7 Horizontal on the Back panel then line up your top corners to meet up.
I'm leaving room for leeway here, everyone's taste varies.

Add some drop shadow to each layer, try these settings:

V = 0
H = 4
Opacity = 100
Blur = 7.4
The color is the same as your dark shadow in the gaps.

Adjust your front and back panels so the top edge & corners are even and lets make the supports!

Add a New Layer and name it Support Right Front, using your selection tool set to Rectangle draw a selection of 25 pixels wide by about 300 high, then flood fill it using your wood pattern and deselect.

Make your Support Selection

Add a drop shadow to help define the edge of it I used these settings:

Drop Shadow support settings

Next your ready to duplicate this support and do the aligning........ to make them angled like I've done (or leave them straight if you prefer), simply go to Image/Rotate/Right Free 25 , you want the shadow edge on the underneath side (make sure All Layers is NOT checked) Depending on which support your doing your going to want to mirror 2 or them so your shadows are all on the bottom edge. Make a set of 2 each for front and back, set them into position and you are READY to Plant!!!! *S*
I left my final planter unmerged so I could easily go back and reconstruct the arrangement for a different look later on.

Save Your Work Now in PSP format then go to Window/ Duplicate and close your original window to save for future projects. Do your planting in the new window and Have Fun!!!

Thank you very much for your time here and experiencing this tutorial!

Note: When adding your plants as tubes, add a new layer for each one before you apply it, then it can be easily moved around forward or back, side to side even resize a layer by itself to arrange just the way you like! Then be sure you add a little drop shadow to each layer as this really helps add depth to the picture.

Planting on seperate layers gives you freedom to re-arrange easily!

I hope you enjoy your Spring Planting this year!

** The 2 tubes I have given you for using in this tutorial I made myself from floral images I downloaded from a collection of hand-drawn flowers by graphics designer Susan Chastain. Permission has been granted by Ms. Chastain to Fluttrby Designs © for distribution as a supply for this tutorial.These tubes are not to be included in any other collections.
Thank you very much Susan!! Wonderful artwork!! :o)
