· Ok it's time to begin adding some shading to bring some depth to your pot!

· With your Back layer active go to Selections/ Select All/ Float and add a Cut Out effect, the settings shown here are basic, you may need to make adjustments depending on the size and shape you have made your pot and it's opening.

Cut Out settings for your Back Layer

· Select none and make your Front layer active, Selections/Select All/ Float/De-Float and Add a New Layer. You need to add a couple different cut outs to the front layer so let's do them on separate layers so you can adjust if needed.

On one side you'll want to make the shadow thicker , using the same setting on both sides won't give you the same nice rounded look we're after.

· Add another new layer and apply the second Cut Out:

Again these are basic starting point settings......
feel free to play with them and see what you come up with until your satisfied.
When you have your Cut Out shadows to your liking, hide all layers except your Front and the 2 Front Cutout layers and Merge Visible, rename the layer Front.

· Last step is to smooth out those jaggies the selection tool left behind, Retouch Tool/ Soften and very sparingly go around the edges of your pot both front and back to smooth them out, like a potter would with his clay *S*

· Save Your Work,
DO NOT Merge your Front and Back layers together,
leave them separate so you can fill your pots before merging.

· Your finished :o) Now you may colorize and fill your pot anyway you choose! I enjoyed creating and writing this tutorial to share with you and I hope you've enjoyed making a digital Clay Coil Pot! Let your imagination run wild, I'm anxious to see what kind of pots you create!
I have drawn a couple of things you might like to use in your pot, you can download the tubs here.
