Gone Fishin Plaque ~ Created by Fluttrby Designs ©

And Making Waves in Paint Shop Pro!
(Animated Plaque Tutorial)
Page 1

Summer time brings many outdoor activities!
Fishing is a very popular family adventure for all ages, even if you don't catch anything, the memories are sure to be remembered!
This tutorial will show you how to make an animated plaque (like the one above), so you can let your online friends know you've "Gone Fishin!" As well as mimicking waves on the water........i.e. 'rocking the boat' or 'feeling the motion of the ocean'

This tutorial is written using PSP 7.02, I think it can be easily done in version 6 as well. This tutorial also assumes you have a good working knowledge of Paint Shop Pro!

I am not an authority on this method, however I found it to render satisfying results, and thought it would be fun to share with you!

One more note, this tutorial is graphic intense so it is multiple pages in length to provide you with faster load time.

Have Fun!Smile! We're gonna have some fun!

  • Tools Needed to Begin:

  • PSP 6 or 7 & PSP Animation Shop

  • These 2 Zip Files: containing the bear_fish tube & font used.
(No need to install these, just open the font and minimize it, and drag the tube into PSP and minimize it for use midway through the tutorial.)
I claim no ownership or copyright infringement for the font or the tube, they are simply ones I have picked up along my travels to use for fun, if your the owner, please contact me!

  • The Ocean pattern HERE if you don't have it already. It is a standard zipped PSP file.
(it is Ocean.tex and needs to be located in your PSP/Textures folder)

Open a new image 400 X 300 / Transparent Background, add a new raster (this will be layer 1 just hide it for now, it's needed later on).

You may at this point want to add another layer and flood fill it with your choice of color to make a 'backdrop' so your work is easier to see.

The font provided in the zip file needs to be open for preview, it doesn't have to be installed to use it, it's called Yucatan, and is a fun type font to use. You can use any font you wish, but it needs to produce fairly broad letters. Using a size 80 set to a white foreground place your words for the plaque. I do make mine as a vector first so positioning and manipulating is easier for me. Once satisfied, convert this layer to a raster. Save & name your project now before we go any further. :o)

Now I've found that the easiest way to center lettering (or any image for that matter) on your canvas is to simply copy/paste it as a new layer. The new layer lands right in the center by default! Then you can just delete the original text layer and move on. Once centered you need to rename this layer Text1, we'll be working with many layers so we need to keep them straight from the start. Now hide Text1 one for the moment.

Draw a simple wavy line from edge to edge on your canvas.

Select your Draw tool, freehand,
foreground color set to black, line width 2, as a vector, now draw a wavy line across your canvas somewhere near the center, drawing from edge to edge, rather like your going drawing a ripple for water similar to the example at the right and convert this to a layer and name it wavy line ;-). Making sure it is indeed edge to edge, because the next step is to use your magic wand to select the bottom half of your canvas, below the water line. And add a new layer while your selection remains active.
